Thomas O Thomas

Thomas was from Criga Mawr, Llanfaelrhys, and he became the only Mariner from Rhiw to lose his life in the great war 1914 ~ 1918. He was working on a small steam ship the “Solway Queen” which was torpedoed on 2nd of April 1918, seven miles east of the Killantringan Lighthouse (Wigtownshire, two miles north of Portpatrick) Whilst on passage from Ayr, Scotland to Newry Northern Ireland with a cargo of Coal. She was attacked without warning and all eleven of her crew lost their lives.
