January.

Monday 1 – 4 BW 12 to 4 pm and 4 am to 8.

Friday 5 – Auction at Ty fry, selling the straw and hay and letting the land. BW 12 to 4 pm.

Saturday 6 -  BW 4 am to 6.

Sunday 7 – The minister at 2. Prayer Meeting at 6. BW 8 pm to 12.

Monday 8 – Watch pay £1/18/0d. BW 8 pm to 12.

Tuesday 9 – BW 4 pm to 8.

Wednesday 10 – Nell goes to town. BW 12 to 4.

Thursday 11 – Paid £1/6/0d to R Jones, Lon Las for the coal he left at the gate to Tan Ffordd. BW 12 to 4 pm.

Friday 12 – Sam goes to Abersoch. Watch pay £1/14/0d. BW 12 to 4pm.

Saturday 13 – BW 8 pm to 12.

Sunday 14 – Hughes Rhiw at 2 and 6. BW 8 am to 12 and 12 to 4 am.

Monday 15 – Paid 13/- to R Jones for the Indian meal (hen food) BW 12 to 4 am.

Tuesday 16 – Snowing and freezing hard. BW 4 am to 8 and 12 to 4 am.

Wednesday 17 – The pipes have frozen in the house. BW 8 pm to 12.

Thursday 18 – Pension £1/10/0d.

Friday 19 – Snowing, thick covering of snow as I went down to the coastguard hut at 8 am to relieve Daniel. BW 8 am to 12. Watch pay £1/14/5d.

Saturday 20 – Snow, it’s difficult to go down to the coastguard hut. Cleared the snow, looking for sheep that have been buried. The sun touches the mountain at 4.30pm, will see how high it is on February the twentieth. BW 4 am to 8.

Sunday 21 – Thick covering of snow, no sign of a thaw, it’s bad on the sheep. BW 12 to 4 pm.

Monday 22 – BW 4 am to 8 and 8 pm to 12.

Tuesday 23 – 25 - BW 4 am to 12 and 4 pm to 8.

Friday 26 – Heavy rain. BW 12 to 4 am.

Saturday 27 – Letter from Caernarfon from Sam. Watch pay £2/3/5d. Heavy rain from the east. BW 4 pm to 8.

Sunday 28 – The second minister at 2 and 6. BW 8 am to 12 and 12 to 4 am.

Monday 29 – BW 4 pm to 8.

Tuesday 30 – BW 4 am to 8. Telephone call from Bangor to say that poor little Jane had died from her injuries, having had an accident at Meillionydd, in which she got burnt.

Wednesday 31 – BW 8 am to 12 and 8 pm to 12.

 

February.

Thursday 1 – BW 8 am to 12.

Friday 2 – Poor little Jane Ty Rhyd’s funeral. The sun goes behind the mountain at 4.38 pm on the second day of February.

Saturday 3 – Watch pay £2/5/0d. Must send Williams, America a letter. BW 4 am to 8.

Sunday 4 – EO Lloyd at 2. BW 8 am to 12 and 4 pm to 8. (heavy fog down at Bytilith)

Monday 5 – Bought three bowlful’s of oats for the hens at Ty Croes Bach. BW 4 am to 8 and 4 pm to 8.

Tuesday 6 – BW 8 am to 12 And 12 to 4 am.

Wednesday 7 – BW 12 to 4 am (heavy fog) and 12 to 4 am.

Thursday 8 – BW 4 am to 8 and 12 to 4 am.

Friday 9 – Watch pay £2/14/0d. BW 4 am to 8 and 4 pm to 8.

Saturday – 10 – BW 4am to 8 and 4 pm to 8.

Sunday 11 – Snowing. BW 4 am to 8 and 4 pm to 8.

Monday 12 – 17 – BW 4 am to 8 and 4 pm to 8.

Sunday 18 – Snow  this morning. BW 12 to 4 am.

Monday 19 -  Went to Ysgo to fetch oats for the hens. The Director of Operations is here. BW 4 pm to 8, foggy.

Tuesday 20 – 23 – BW 8 am to 12 and 4 pm to 8.

Saturday 24 – Sold the yellow boat to Thomas to take to Bardsey. BW 4 am to 8 and 4 pm to 8.

Sunday 25 – Fine Sunday, put the clocks forward an hour. The minister at 2 and 6. BW 8 pm to 12.

Monday 26 – BW 8 am to 12.

Tuesday 27 – Sent John Williams, America a letter. BW 4 am to 8 and 8 pm to 12. John couldn’t do his shift because the ewe was having trouble lambing at Tyn Castell.

Wednesday 28 – BW 12 to 4 pm.

Thursday 29 – BW 8 am to 12.

 

March.

Friday 1 – BW 4 am to 8.Watch pay £2/5/0d. Freezing hard from north east.

Saturday 2 – BW 4 am to 8. Cwt of corn for the hens from Eifion, have paid Mrs Thomas.

Sunday 3 – 5 – BW 8 pm to 12 and 12 to 4 am.

Wednesday 6 – The sun disappears round the mountain at 6.20pm.

Thursday 7 – 9 – BW 12 to 4 pm.

Sunday 10 – Home today with a cold. Griffith T Roberts, Morfa at Pisgah at 6.

Monday 11 – BW 4 pm to 8, thick fog.

Tuesday 12 – BW 8 am to 12 (fog has cleared) Fog and heavy rain again in the afternoon. Sent the money for the monthly books 10/10d.

Wednesday 13 –  14 - BW 12 to 4 am.

Friday 15 – Mary Talafon dies. BW 4 pm to 8. The sun goes down at 6.35 pm.

Saturday 16 – Watch pay £2/5/0d. BW 12 to 4 pm.

Sunday 17 – Eurig Jones, Bangor, formerly of Cricieth. The text of his sermon ‘There will be no night there’. Fog and rain all day. BW 4 am to 8.

Monday 18 – BW 8 am to 12. Foggy today.

Tuesday 19 – BW 8 am to 12. Daniel comes to tell me that William, Eifion has died. Mary Talafon’s funeral.

Wednesday 20 – BW 12 to 4 am.

Thursday 21 – Director of Operations at the Rocket House. Owen Owens tells me that Mari Ffor has died. Fog and rain every day.

Friday 22 – WJ Thomas, Eifion’s funeral at 12. Watch pay £1/11/6d. BW 12 to 4 am.

Saturday 23 – Mari Ffor’s funeral at Nebo. BW 12 to 4 pm.

Sunday 24 – Brother Eurig Cricieth at 2 and 6. The sun goes down 6.35 pm. BW 4 am to 8 and 4 pm to 8.

Monday 25 – Daniel takes the bullocks to Congol. BW 4 am to 8 and 12 to 4 am.

Tuesday 26 – Edgar has measles. BW 4 pm to 8.

This is the last entry in the diary, Griffith Thomas is taken ill at the coastguard hut, and one of the men had to go and help him back home from there. Within two days Griffith Thomas dies in his sleep.
