Sunday 1 – Joseff Jones at 2 and 6. BW 2.30 to 7.30 am.

Monday 2 – Williams Chwilog in Nebo at 6.30pm. BW 10 pm to 3 am.

Tuesday 3 – Gwyn Jones the minister preaches at 7.

Wednesday 4 – BW 4 am to 9. Thunder and lighting this morning, the telephone gets hit, quite a morning for me in Bytilith.

Thursday 5 – BW 10 am to 2 pm. Went to Congol to put the corn in. Prayer Meeting at Pisgah.

Friday 6 – Half at Carreg Lefain Bach finishing the lower end of the cowshed. Prayer Meeting at Pisgah.

Saturday 7 – At Tan Ffordd chaffing for Sunday.

Sunday 8 – Griffith Thomas Roberts Botwnnog.

Monday 9 – At Carreg Lefain. Fine day.

Tuesday 10 – BW 8 pm to 12. Daniel’s cow calves.

Wednesday 11 – Went to town to see Butterball about the co operative.

Thursday 12 – News comes that Margaret Williams Ty Croes Mawr has died in the hospital.

Friday 13 – Margaret’s body is brought home from Bangor.

Saturday 14 – Went to Tyn Llan this evening. Paid 10d for the Cymro.

Sunday 15 – RH Jones Rhostryfan at 2. BW 9 am to noon.

Monday 16 – Finishing at Carreg Lefain Bach.

Tuesday 17 – Margaret Williams Ty Croes Mawr’s funeral at Nebo. She was 64. T Gwyn Jones the minister was officiating.

Wednesday 18 –

Thursday 19 – Went to Tyn Llan to see about the oven.

Friday 20 -  Chaffing with Daniel at Congol. The watchers drill at mynydd bach hut. BW money 4/6d and 2/6d for the drill, 1/3 for chaffing.

Saturday 21 -  At Tan Ffordd  chaffing. It’s a cold day.

Sunday 22 – Gwyn Jones the minister at 2 and 6.

Monday 23 to 24 – Freezing.

Wednesday 25 –  BW 3 to 8 am. St Tudwals light is off.

Thursday 26 - I’ve got a heavy cold. It’s freezing again today.

Friday 27 –

Saturday 28 – At Tan Ffordd chaffing. Freezing it’s been a very cold week.

Sunday 29 – John Emrys Roberts Pwllheli at 2 and 6.

Monday 30 – At Tyn Llan installing the oven.

Tuesday 31 – In town to do with the co operative. BW money 5/7d.

February.

Wednesday 1 – BW 8 am to 1 pm.

Thursday 2 – With Daniel tending the cow that’s calving 6.30 this morning. Churning at Tan Ffordd. Richard takes six sheep to Coch Moel.

Friday 3 – BW 5 pm to 10.

Saturday 4 – BW 6 pm to 11. Must make the balance sheet for Owen Griffith.

Sunday 5 – John Ellis Williams the minister. BW 7 pm to midnight, then I went to Rhiwlas where I was up all night.

Monday 6 – At Tan Ffordd the oil engine isn’t turning. Evan Refail dies in Mynytho where he lived lately.

Tuesday 7 – Paid Hugh 6d for the Cymro. Got the oil engine going today. Trustees meeting at Pisgah Gwyn Jones leads.

Wednesday 8 – BW 2.30 to 8.30.

Thursday 9 -  BW 4.30 to 9.30. Paid 17/- for a bag of feed in Eifion, Willie didn’t have change whilst we were in the lookout and he was complaining that I hadn’t charged him for putting the door frame in. So I went and paid the money to his wife and then went to Congol in the afternoon.

Friday 10 – I slept at Rhiwlas last night. Chaffing and feeding at Bwlchgarreg and Congol. Bw 10 pm to 3 am.

Saturday 11 – One Cymro hasn’t come.

Sunday 12 – Joseff Jones at 2.

Monday 13 – At Rhiwlas. Daniel has gone to Bodfean to fetch the cart.

Tuesday 14 – Much spreading at cae capel Tan Ffordd.

Wednesday 15 – Half at Cadwgan. Muck spreading at Tan Ffordd in the afternoon. BW money £2/5/6d.

Thursday 16 to 18 – Feeding and muck spreading at Cadwgan.

Sunday 19 -  John Emrys at 2 and 6. At Cadwgan in the morning. BW 12 to 5 pm. Went to Cadwgan to feed and milk the cows.

Monday 20 – At Cadwgan five loads of muck spread in the field near Tan Ffordd.

Tuesday 21 – Feeding and muck spreading at Cadwgan. BW 5 pm to 10.

Wednesday 22 – At Cadwgan. BW 6 pm to 11.

Thursday 23 – Half at Cadwgan. Snow, not able to do the feeding.

Friday 24 – Heavy snow I couldn’t get further than Ty Fron as I tried to get to Cadwgan. Sheep have been buried under the snow. BW 6 to 11pm.

Saturday 25 – At Cadwgan feeding and helping R Owen Waen to look for the sheep. BW 7 pm to 12.

Sunday 26 -   Everyone’s snowbound so they can’t get to the chapels today.

Monday 27 – At Cadwgan feeding and clearing the snow. BW 8 pm to 1 am.

Tuesday 28 – Feeding, mucking out and looking for sheep at Cadwgan.

March.

Wednesday 1 – Half at Cadwgan then I went to Bytilith at 3 . BW 4 pm to 9.

Thursday 2 – Feeding and mucking out at Cadwgan.

Friday 3 – BW 3 to 8 am. John Evans goes to Cadwgan in the morning and I go in the afternoon to feed and muck out. Rain.

Saturday 4 – BW 5.30 to 9.30 am. Daniel calls at 1.30 am. John Evans goes to Cadwgan in the morning and I go in the afternoon. Received £/16/0d for making the cowshed at Carreg Lefain.

Sunday 5 – Gwyn Jones the mimister at 2 and 6. Went to Cadwgan.

Monday 6 – Half at Cadwgan. BW 11 am to 3 pm. LSA drill at 3.

Tuesday 7 – Half at Cadwgan. Auction at Ty Croes Mawr.

Wednesday 8 – At Cadwgan. Started ploughing.

Thursday 9 – At Cadwgan feeding and fettering the sheep. Finished muck spreading in the meadow. The lady from Tyn Lon’s funeral at Rhiw.

Friday 10 – At Cadwgan feeding and ploughing with R Jones in the cae crwn.

Saturday 11 – Feeding at Cadwgan. Went to see if R Jones could come ploughing. Took the straps of the cart to Llyshyfryd and tidied up where we’d been ploughing, with a spade.

Sunday 12 – Joseff Jones at 2 and 6.

Monday 13 – Feeding at Cadwgan and muck spreading in cae pella. BW 8 pm to midnight.

Tuesday 14 – At Cadwgan feeding and ploughing. BW 8 to midnight. I look for TJ to go on watch.

Wednesday 15 – Half at Cadwgan feeding. BW 2 pm to 7. Slaughtered a ram lamb with Daniel. BW money 6 shifts £1/13/9d.

Thursday 16 – Half at Cadwgan ‘til three. BW 3 pm to 8.

Friday 17 – Feeding at Cadwgan in the morning then ploughing in the afternoon. Took the small cow to Bodwyddog.

Saturday 18 – Ploughing and feeding at Cadwgan.

Sunday 19 -  Gwyn Jones the minister at 10. Heavy rain. BW 1 am to 5.

Monday 20 – At Cadwgan feeding and ploughing. I pay the rates 18/4d to Morris as he is in Cadwgan.

Tuesday 21 -  At Cadwgan feeding and ploughing. Things aren’t too good in Tan Ffordd, Nell comes to get me from Cadwgan. BW 12 to 4 am.

Wednesday 22 – Half at Cadwgan. Edgar Morris and I go to town. BW money £2/0/6d. paid up to 17th March.

Thursday 23 – Half at Cadwgan feeding and muck spreading. BW 1 pm to 6.

Friday 24 – At Cadwgan feeding, finishing the muck spreading and hedging the garden.

Saturday 25 – Half at Cadwgan. Ploughing at Tan Ffordd.

Sunday 26 – Ellis O Lloyd Portmadoc at 2 and 6.

Monday 27 – Feeding and digging the garden at Cadwgan. Meeting of the Bangor Hospital Committee at the school this evening at 7. Sent the money for the books to Bangor.

Tuesday 28 – Half in the morning gathering gorse from cae newydd Bodwyddog. Hot day. Ploughing in Tan Ffordd in the afternoon.

Wednesday 29 -  Hedging, digging the garden and planting onions at Cadwgan.

Thursday 30 – Went to Griffith Jones Minffordd Llangwnadl’s funeral at Bryncroes.

Friday 31 – Digging the garden at Cadwgan.

April.

Saturday 1 – BW 3 am to 9. Quiet morning went to Cadwgan to chaff. Planted potatoes in Ael Bryn today. Paid for the Cymro today.

Sunday 2 – Griffith Thomas Roberts at 10.

Monday 3 – Gathering gorse at cae newydd Cadwgan. Hugh takes the sheep to Bodgaeaf in the afternoon.

Tuesday 4 –  Picking potatoes in Cadwgan

Wednesday 5 – Picking potatoes again. Ploughed where the potatoes were in the afternoon. Hugh Jones and I took the small cow to the bull in the evening.

Thursday 6 – Half at Cadwgan where the potatoes were. Went to Tan Ffordd to furrow in the afternoon with Daniel’s horse. Ploughing in the evening at Cadwgan.

Friday 7 – At Cadwgan furrowing the potatoes. The weather has been exceptionally dry this week.

Saturday 8 – Half at Cadwgan spread 6 loads of manure on the potatoes. Ploughing in cae big Tan Ffordd in the afternoon.

Sunday 9 – Gwyn Jones the minister at 2. Prayer meeting at 6. Rain today we’ve had none for three weeks.

Monday 10 – BW fog 2 am to 8. Half at Cadwgan mucking the potatoes.

Tuesday 11 – Half at Cadwgan. BW fog 1pm to 6.

Wednesday 12 – BW 9 am. Half at Cadwgan. BW money £1/1/6d.

Thursday 13 – At Cadwgan.

Friday 14 – At Cadwgan ploughing the bottom of Griffith William’s field.

Saturday 15 – At Cadwgan finishing the ploughing.

Tuesday 18 – Ploughing in Cadwgan where the turnips were. Went to Tan Ffordd to the sheep.

Wednesday 19 – Owen Hughes ploughs cae big Tan Ffordd.

Thursday 20 – Ploughing at Tan Ffordd. Fertilising for Hugh Jones in the afternoon.

Friday 21 -  Muck spreading cae big with Evan Williams ‘s cart. Sowing in the afternoon. Owen Hughes finishes levelling cae big and the field below the house.

Saturday 22 – Watchers drill.

Sunday 23 – Joseff Jones at 10. Heavy rain and it’s good to see it as the weather has been so dry.

Monday 24 – BW fog 5 am to 10. Rain. Cleaned the stove in Ael Bryn.

Tuesday 25 – At Tan Ffordd went to Ty Rhedyn to see if they had any grass seed.

Wednesday 26 – BW 8 am to 11pm., money £1/1/4d paid to 12th April.

Thursday 27 – Up all night in Rhiwlas. Sifting the sack of hay seeds at Ty Croes Mawr. Richard turns the cattle out at night no hay left.

Friday 28 – Half at Cadwgan ploughing.

Saturday 29 – Sowing cae big Tan Ffordd. Up all night at Rhiwlas.

Sunday 30 – John Emrys Roberts.

May.

Monday 1 – Went to trwynau bach to cut sticks for the peas.

Tuesday 2 – BW 4pm to 9. money £1/2/6d.

Wednesday 3 – At Penrogo putting up hooks for the guttering.

Thursday 4 – Painting and cementing at Penrogo.

Friday 5 – Took the two bullocks to Ystol Helyg Bach.

Saturday 6 – Heavy rain today.

Sunday 7 – Prayer Meeting at 2 and 6.30.

Monday 8 – At Penrogo.

Tuesday 9 – Went to Penrogo after tea received 11/- from Mrs Keatings.

Wednesday 11 – BW 3 to 8. Furrowing the turnips at Cadwgan. Money from Hugh Jones £5.

Thursday 12 – Furrowing at Bwlchgarreg and later at Tan Ffordd. RHT and Bet call as they deliver bricks to the Glyn.

Friday 12 – Finished planting potatoes at Ael Bryn.

Saturday 13 – Everyone goes to the fair today. BW money 5/7d. Rain, tender rain. 6d for the Cymro.

Sunday 14 – Joseff Jones at 10.

Monday 15 –

Tuesday 16 – Furrowing mangles and burying the compost.

Wednesday 17 – Planting mangles and turnips and finishing the furrowing. Good growing weather.

Thursday 18 – Muck spreading. 5 cwt of coal from Rednant 13/-.

Friday 19 – Ploughing on the potatoes at Tan Ffordd.

Saturday 20 – Planting turnips at Bwlchgarreg and taking earth off the potatoes. Nell has gone to the furniture auction at Sarn. It rained a little today.

Sunday 21 – JE Williams the minister at 2 and 6.30 The Rev H Hughes ‘s memorial sermon.

Monday 22 – Home moving the partition to make the parlour bigger. Money for working for Daniel 10/-. Rain from the north this evening.

Tuesday 23 – Put up the cupboard in the larder and finished moving the partition. Cwt of coal from John Talalfon. Robert Evans Syntyr moves to Bronfoel Uwchmynydd.

Wednesday 24 – BW 3 am to 8. At Rhiwlas churning ‘til lunch time. Went to Congol to furrow the turnips in the afternoon.

Thursday 25 – At Congol in the afternoon muck spreading and sowing mangles.

Friday 26 – Cemented the floor of the parlour.

Saturday 27 – Painted the larder and kitchen.

Sunday 28 – Sunday school at Tyddyn E Williams and O Owens go there. The minister of Bwlch at Tan y Foel at 2.

Monday 29 – Spent the day blocking up the shaft at Benallt that Ty Croes’s mare fell down. Parish Council to choose school managers.

Tuesday 30 – At Benallt again blocking the shaft.

Wednesday 31 – Blocking the shaft and putting barbed wire round it.

June.

Thursday 1 – Everyone ‘s gone to the singing festival at Llanbedrog.

Friday 2 – Heavy rain this morning.

Saturday 3- Put emulsion on the kitchen ceiling. BW money 5/7d.

Sunday 4 – John Emrys Roberts at 2 and 6.30. instead of Richard Jones Pwllheli.

Monday 5 –  Tidied up the garden.

Tuesday 6 -  BW fog 1 am to 5. Went to Pencaerau to fetch paint.

Wednesday 7 –

Thursday 8 -  40 weeks for the brown cow.

Friday 9 –

Saturday 10 – 61 years old today. Went to Ty Isa Aberdaron to see about the cow. Ann Bodlondeb dies at 1.30am.

Sunday 11 – John Emrys Roberts at 2.

Monday 12 – Picked the first potatoes planted in April.

Tuesday 13 – At home painting.

Wednesday 14 to 15 -  Painting.

Friday 16 – Some rain. BW 11pm to 4 am.

Saturday 17 -  A little rain in the morning. Three of the sons of Tir Dyrys drown at Porth Fesig, below Trefgraig as they go to check the lobster pots.

Sunday 18 – BW 5 to 10.

Monday 19 – BW 6 to 10 am. Shearing the sheep from Mynydd Graig.

Tuesday 20 – Washed the sheep at Tan Ffordd. Griffith John Llyshyfryd runs into a lorry near Tyn Lon with his motor bike, he’s not badly hurt Tudwal is injured more, but it could have been far worse.

Wednesday 21 – The funeral of the three brothers than drowned below Trefgraig land at Hebron, it’s the biggest funeral ever seen around here.

Thursday 22 – Shearing at Tan Ffordd. Bag of feed from Eifion.

Friday 23 – Went to fetch white paint to paint the windows. It started to rain at 6pm.

Saturday 24 –

Sunday 25 – John Emrys Roberts at 6.30.

Monday 26 – LSA drill 5/-. Sheepdog trials Committee Meeting.

Tuesday 27 – Gaynor Roberts Tyn Llidiart dies. Banking up on the potatoes.

Saturday 1 -  Everyone’s gone to Aberdaron with Laura and the children.

Sunday 2 – Bob Humphries Llanbedrog at 2 and 6.30.

Monday 3 – Cut the hay in the field below the house at Tan Ffordd and also the upper part of the chapel field. Carrying hay with Daniel.

Tuesday 4 –

Wednesday 5 – Carried three loads from the field below the house.

Thursday 6 – Watchers drill at 10 am.

Friday 7 – Load of hay from the field below the house and the upper part of the chapel field. Slaughtered a lamb at Penarfynydd.

Saturday 8 – Finishing cutting hay at cae capel Tan Ffordd. Killed a lamb in Penarfynydd.

Sunday 9 – Griffith Thomas Congl Meinciau at 2 and 6.30. Heavy rain started at 6 pm.

Monday 10 – Starting haymaking at Penarfynydd.

Tuesday 11 – BW 6 am to9.

Wednesday 12 – BW 3 pm to 8. BW and watchers drill money 13/6d 5/- for carrying hay at Bodwyddog.

Thursday 20 – Owen Hughes cuts the field next to Conion.

Friday 21 – 40 weeks for the dun cow. Got the hay at Tan Ffordd. Thomas my brother is here.

Saturday 22 – At Penarfynydd cutting the barn field. Carried 10 loads until 11pm.

Sunday 23 – Ellis O Lloyd at 10. Thomas my brother is here.

Monday 24 – Started work at Penarfynydd 6 am. Cut pwllfadog field and carried the barn field.

Tuesday 25 – Cutting bryncaerwyn Penarfynydd. Went to BW 5pm to 10 money 11/3d.

Wednesday 26 – Cutting top part of dryll and raking bryncaerwyn and turning pwllfadog.

Thursday 27 – Carrying pwwlfadog the lads from Tyn Fron help out with their cart. Started cutting dryll at 6 am.

Friday 28 – Started at 5.40 am turning the lower acre but Lewis’s foot gets stuck in the mare’s grave (?). Killed a lamb.

Saturday 29 – Raking and turning.

Sunday 30 – Edward Thomas Aberdaron.

Monday 31 – Time for the wireless licence at Tan Ffordd. The well in cae Conion dries up.

August.

Tuesday 1 – BW 5 to 10 am. Spent all day until 10 pm carrying ten loads from the top of dryll.

Wednesday 2 – Went to get the rakings from dryll mawr. Cut dryll dan ty.

Thursday 3 – Cutting in the morning and in the evening and carried four loads. Tai gets a nail in his foot.

Friday 4 – Finished carrying the hill at dryll 11 loads R Jones helps out.

Saturday 5 – Finished getting the hay and the rakings from dryll dan ty, carried four loads.

Sunday 6 – N P Roberts at 2 and 6.30.

Monday 7 – Extremely dry.

Tuesday 8 – Sheepdog trials at Ty Croes in the afternoon.

Wednesday 9 – Half at Penarfynydd. Started making ropes.

Thursday 10 – Aberdaron Regatta.

Friday 11 – Shearing the lambs at Penarfynydd.

Saturday 12 -  At Penarfynydd securing the haystack.

Sunday 13 – Thomas H Evans, Bryn Difyr. It rained a little at 8 pm.

Monday 14 – Dipping the sheep at Penarfynydd at 5.30 am and then put bracken on the haystack.

Tuesday 15 – Half at Penarfynydd rope making until tea. Cut round dryll cefmenus later.

Wednesday 16 – Cutting dryll cefnenus. Rhoshurwaen Preaching Festival starts.

Thursday 17 – Rain in the morning. Preparing the scythes and sharpening them. Rolant goes to the preaching festival.

Friday 18 – BW 2 am to 7. Cutting round cae pant then later with the machine.

Saturday 19 – Finished cutting the bottom of cae pant. Nineteen and a half days.

Sunday 20 – Gwyn Jones at 6.30. BW 10 am to 3 pm.

Monday 21 – Finished cutting cae pant. Feed and corn for the hens from Eifion.

Tuesday 22 – Cutting cae crwth with machine. It’s wet so we put the straw in.

Wednesday 23 – Rope making in the morning then we finished cutting cae crwth.

Thursday 24 – Dipping the sheep in the morning, then made the sheaves in cefnenus in the afternoon.

Friday 25 – Half finishing the sheaves. After dinner went to Tan Ffordd to carry corn.

Saturday 26 – Sheaving cae crwth and cae pant. Got a call from the Watch at 10.30 pm W Owen Bryn Badell’s motor boat is missing, but is found later in Porth Neigwl having run out of petrol.

Sunday 27 – GT Roberts Botwnnog at 2.

Monday 28 – Rope making. Heavy rain all day. BW 7.30pm to 12.30.

Tuesday 29 – Home today putting up guttering at Bryn Awel.

Wednesday 30 – Turning cae pant later hedging pen Trwyn to keep the sheep in.

Thursday 31 – Topping the stacks. Killed a lamb. Sheaving cae pant in the afternoon. Robert takes the sow to Meillionydd and from there to the sale. BW money £1/1/4d.

September.

Friday 1- Making small ropes and topping in the afternoon, hedging pen Trwyn after tea.

Saturday 2 – Topping the haystack.

Sunday 3 – John Emrys Roberts at 2. Thomas Rhiwlas dies at 8 am. BW fog 6.30 to 10.30.

Monday 4 – Carrying barley from cae crwth.

Tuesday 5 – Gathering the mountain. Robert takes the sheep to the sale. Sheaving cae pant in the afternoon.

Wednesday 6 – Thomas Rhiwlas’s funeral. Carried a load from dryll cefnenus. Thrashing at Conion and Carreg Lefain.

Thursday 7 – Carried 18 loads from cae pant. Thrashing Tyn Fron and Tyn Llidiart.

Friday 8 – Thrashing. The well has dried up at Conion, it’s exceptionally dry.

Saturday 9 – Thrashing at Llawenan.

Sunday 10 – Joseff Jones at 2.

Monday 11 – Half carrying wheat from cae pant. Richard starts to carry water from Pant’s well.

Tuesday 12 – Clearing round the stacks. Robert and Rolant aren’t here today. Emlyn goes to fetch Rolant.

Wednesday 13 – Gleaning cae pant and dryll cefnenus. Rolant is home.

Thursday 14 – Helped Robert get the heifers off to the sale. Topped the straw stack and finished the haystack.

Friday 15 – Half topping the stack. Went to the Association at Pwllheli ( chapel ).

Saturday 16 – Topping and rope making. It’s been an extremely dry week and there’s no sign of rain this evening. The wells are drying up everywhere. Paid Griffith John 7/6d for a leather.

Sunday 17 – J E Williams the minister at 2 and 6.30. BW 7pm to 12.

Monday 18 – Making ropes for the haystack in the shed. Shifted the sheep to penrorosedd field. Robert takes the rams to Aberdaron.

Tuesday 19 -  Topping the barley stack. Started topping the stack in the shed. BW money 10/-.

Wednesday 20 – BW 5 am to 10. Money 5/9d. Capping the haystack. Heavy rain this evening.

Thursday 21 – Hedging to stop the sheep on the Ty Rhedyn boundary. Rolant has gone to Ysgo for thrashing. Finished the haystack in the shed.

Friday 22 – At Penrogo today.

Saturday 23 – Making ropes. Started putting ropes on the haystack.

Sunday 24 – John Emrys at 2. BW 8 pm to 12.

Monday 25 – Making ropes. Rolant starts roping one side of the haystack. BW 3 am to 8.

Tuesday 26 – Roping the haystack.

Wednesday 27 – Got a cold. Roping.

Friday 29 – Went to Elisabeth Bryn Chwilog’s funeral in Aberdaron.

Saturday 30 – Capping the wheat stack.

Monday 2 – Started picking potatoes.

Tuesday 3 – Picking potatoes.

Wednesday 4 – Picking potatoes. Rolant is home picking potatoes.

Thursday 5 – Buried the cow this morning picked 93 bags of potatoes this afternoon.

Friday 6 – Started picking the cer pinc potatoes.
