Friday 6 – Home today I have a cold.

Thursday 12 – Shift. Elin Felin Nant’s funeral, Richard Ty Fair’s mother, they brought her from Abererch to be buried at Aberdaron.

Friday 13 – Shift. Pay £2/8/8d.

Saturday 14 – Shift.

Sunday 15 – Jones Caernarfon at 10.

Monday 16 – Shift. Sam Jones gets my insurance card at Terfyn 25 stamps.

Tuesday 17 – Fine day warm sunshine. Shift underground at Rolant Jones’s mine getting stone for Harri Thomas. Eliza ‘s gone to Ty Fair and I go to Glwyd to meet her.

Wednesday 18 – Shift. Rain today. Harri Thomas tells us to come up from the mine in case it floods.

Wednesday 25 – Bob’s thrashing at Meillionydd. Letter from Clun. Shift on the level in the morning and Rolant Jones’s mine in the afternoon. Pay £2/17/8d.

Thursday 26 –  The wife of  Penarfynydd dies and William Trefaes dies.. Stayed in bed today I had a headache all night.

Friday 27 – Shift in Rolant Jones’s mine digging stone for Harri Thomas.

Saturday 28 – Shift on the level. Rain all day.

Sunday 29 – Youth from the college in Bangor ( Baptist) instead of Berwyn Roberts. Heavy rain all day extremely wet.

Monday 30 – Shift putting a corrugated roof on the smithy at Benallt.

Tuesday 31 – Shift . William Trefaes’s funeral and the wife of Penarfynydd’s funeral. Rain all day.

Friday 2 – Shift hammering piles. William Ty Croes brings quarter of a pig here.

Saturday 3 – Shift on the jetty. Furrowing the onions and the patch near the chicken coop.

Sunday 4 – Joseff Jones at 2 and 6.

Monday 5 -  Shift hammering piles. Fine day.

Tuesday 6 – Shift hammering piles. Collecting money for the Bible Society.

Wednesday 7 – Shift finishing hammering piles. Eliza is ill she has a cold.

Thursday 8 – Shift getting the hammer up from the jetty.

Sunday 11 – Youth from Cefn Hirwaen at 2 and 6. Cold Sunday. Eliza is in bed, Bob goes to Seaview to ask for the doctor to come ( phone)

Monday 12 – Home today Eliza is ill. Cold day. Sent a letter to Birches Clun.

Tuesday 13 – Shift fixing bolts on the jetty. Snow this morning.

Wednesday 14 – Shift fixing bolts on the jetty. Cold day. Letter from Nell.

Thursday 15 – Shift fixing bolts. New Fair today. Eliza gets up today.

Friday 16 – Shift. Sent a letter to Nell.

Saturday 17 – Shift at Benallt. W O Jones Bangor lectures at Pisgah on ‘Taw a thewi’ ‘Silence and silent’.

Sunday 18 – W O Jones Aber Bangor.

Monday 19 – Hugh Williams Treheli dies. Shift at Benallt.

Tuesday 20 – Shift at Benallt. Rain today.

Wednesday 21 – Shift at Benallt.

Thursday 22 – Shift at Benallt in the morning. Went to the beach to the jetty until 5 putting 2 balks on the old pile. Sent Nell a letter.

Friday 23 – Shift on the jetty fixing a rail on part of the old the old one after the ebb until 5.45. Pay £2/12/4d.

Saturday 24 – Shift at Benallt.

Sunday 25 – Went to the Sunday school meeting at Cricieth with W Jones Llyshyfryd.

Monday 26 – Shift on the jetty. Planted onions today.

Tuesday 27 –  Shift. Eliza is in bed today she has a bad cough.

Wednesday 28 -  Shift at the jetty. Had a letter and newspaper from Nell. Sam Prydderch’s here. Eliza is in bed.

Thursday 29 – Home today. Eliza is in bed. Sent the watch and gloves to Clun.

Friday 30 – Shift at Benallt.

Sunday 31 – Shift at Benallt. Letter from Clun to say that the watch had arrived safely.

 

April.

Sunday 1 – T Morris Cricieth am 2 a 6. The Ordinance this evening.

Monday 2 – Shift on the jetty. Planting potatoes in the patch next to the chicken coop.

Tuesday 3 – Shift at Benallt.

Wednesday 4 – Shift on the jetty. Finished planting on the border under the parlour window.

Thursday 5 – Shift on the stage. Sent a letter to Nell.

Friday 6 –Shift again. Pay £2/17/4d . No rain for days.

Saturday 7 -  Shift on the jetty. Finished furrowing the garden this afternoon.

Sunday 8 – Prayer meeting at 2 and 6.

Monday 9 – No work.

Tuesday 10 – Shift at Benallt. Went to Ty Coch garden to fetch a frame for the peas. Banged my nail.

Wednesday 11 – Shift on the jetty. Planting shallots.

Thursday 12 – Shift. LSA practice.  Planted peas near the WC.

Friday 13 – Shift on the jetty. Letter from Nell.

Saturday 14 – Shift on the jetty. Cold morning hard wind from the east. Planted 27 rows of potatoes in the field next to Conion at Tan y Ffordd.

Sunday 15 – T Morris Cricieth at 10. Owen Jones Cadwgan dies. Cold Sunday wind from the east.

Monday 16 – Shift on the jetty. Finished planting potatoes.

Tuesday 17 – Shift on the jetty. Cold weather.

Saturday 2 – Shift. Strong dry wind from the east every day.  Pay £2/17/4d.

Sunday 3 – Joseff Jones ar 2 and 6.30. W Jones Llyshyfryd and I go the Sunday school in Pwllheli.

Monday 4 – Shift on the jetty. At Llywenan  from 4 ‘til 7.

Tuesday 5 – Shift At Llywenan 4’til 7.

Wednesday 6 – Shift closing the entrance to Mynydd Bodwyddog in the morning on the jetty in the afternoon.

Thursday  7 -  Shift. Went to Garth Gae to get canes to support the peas.

Friday 8 – Shift. At Llywenan 4 ‘til 9.

Saturday 9 – Shift. Letter from Nell. Rain last night.

Sunday 10 – Prayer meeting at 2 and 6. Heavy rain last night. It’s my 56th birthday today.

Monday 11 – Shift on the jetty.

Tuesday 12 – Shift again. Started raining heavily at 4 pm.

Wednesday 13 – Shift. At Llywenan  levelling the yard in front of the parlour window.

Thursday 14 – No work too much rain.

Friday 15 – Shift. Pay £2/12/4d.

Saturday 16 – Shift. At Llywenan cementing the yard under the parlour window.

Sunday 17 – Berwyn Roberts at 2 and 6.

Monday 18 – Shift. At Llywenan 4 ‘til 7. Sent a letter to Nell.

Wednesday 20 – Shift. Went to Rhoshirwaen to the Nurses Committee.

Thursday 21 – Rain today.

Friday 22 -  Shift. Rhoshirwaen Eisteddfod.

Sunday 24 – Bob Humphreys.

Monday 25 -  Rolled part of the old pile in Porth Ysgo. Rain today.

Tuesday 26 – Rain again today no work.

Wednesday 27 – Shift.

Thursday 28 – Quarter shift this morning due to strong winds and heavy rain, came up after ‘elevnses’.

Friday 29 – Rain all day. The wife of Glan Gors’s funeral.

Saturday 30 – No work.

Friday 6 – Shift at Llywenan.

Saturday 7 – Shift. At Llywenan 12 dan 6.30 laying concrete in the front.

Sunday 8 – Hugh Jones Cricieth at 2 and 6.30.

Monday 9 – Shift at Llywenan concreting the porch.

Tuesday 10 – Shift.

Wednesday 11 – Didn’t go to work I have something in my eye. Went to town in the afternoon. Had a letter from Nell.

Thursday 12 – Shift. Pay £1/13/8d.

Friday 13 – Shift. At Llywenan 4’til 9.

Saturday 14 – Jessie Tyn Lon Fawr dies. Shift. Took my insurance card to Terfyn Hugh will send it to S Jones on Monday 26 stamps.

Sunday 15 – Joseff Jones at 2 and 6.30.

Monday 16 – Shift at Llywenan 4 ‘til 9.

Tuesday 17 – Got the hay at Tan y Ffordd. Shift at Llywenan 4 ‘til 9.

Wednesday 18 – Shift at Llywenan carrying hay 4 ‘til 8.

Thursday 19 – Shift. Hugh Terfyn takes me to town on the motorbike I sleep in Porthmadog.

Friday 20 – Catch the 8.40 train to Clun arrive at Montgomery at 12.30 and at Bishop’s Castle at 2 leave there by car 9/- and arrive at The Birches Clun at 5pm.

Saturday 21 – at The Birches.

Sunday 22 – Fine Sunday not at Cefneinion chapel today.

Monday Tuesday 23 to 24 –

Wednesday 25 – Cutting the meadow.

Thursday 26 Cutting near the ditches in the meadow.

Friday 27 – Went to Clun sent Eliza a pair of slippers.

Saturday 28 – Raking the meadow.

Sunday 29 – At Mardy chapel Shropshire this evening.

Monday 30 Heavy rain today.

Thursday 2 – Raking the meadow.

Sunday 5 – At Mardy chapel.

Saturday 11 – Finished getting the hay. Started for Clun at 6.

Sunday 12 – No chapel today. Fine Sunday. Williams the landlord and his wife are at The Birches.

Friday 17 – Went to Bishop’s Castle with the children. Fine day.

Saturday 18 – Put corrugated on the hay.

Sunday 19 – Fine Sunday. I’m writing this near the chapel at Mardy.

Monday Friday 20 to 24 –

Saturday 25 – Went to Clun 5 pm.

Sunday Tuesday 26 to 28 –

Wednesday 29 – Reg and I go to Lupodwood (?).

Thursday 30 – Started off for home left The Birches at 8 am.

Saturday 1 – The cooperative holds a bazaar at Rhoshirwaun.

Sunday 2 – Prayer meeting at Pisgah. Cambrensis Williams asks questions on Luc 11. Fine Sunday.

Monday 3 – Carried bracken and gorse from the hill pasture.

Tuesday 4 – Carried bracken from the hill. Willie, Jinnie and Cwellyn Port come here.

Wednesday 5 – Picked the early potatoes. Rain in the afternoon.

Thursday 6 – Fishing for wrasse with Tedi, John Terfyn, Willie Clwt y Bont and Cwellyn caught 8. Picked potatoes. Sent a letter to Nell.

Friday 7 – Finished picking potatoes. Hot day.

Saturday 8 – Rain today. Tried for wrasse but the sea was too choppy.

Sunday 9 – Youth from Cefnhirwaen at 10. Ty Croes paid a 1/-

Monday 10 – At Penarfynydd with the pump.

Tuesday 11 – At Llywenan plastering the yard wall.

Wednesday 12 – At Llywenan finishing the yard. Had a £1 from Fanny.

Thursday 20 – Jenn ( Jane) Pwllciw and Eliza The Post Sarn’ s funerals.

Monday 24 – Putting a pot in the chimney at Bryn Difyr. Eliza has gone to the heather festival fair.

Tuesday 25 – Fishing with Hugh Ty Corn.

Wednesday 26 – At Tan y Ffordd putting a channel for churning in the pantry.

Thursday 27 – At Ysgo repairing round the dairy.

Friday 28 – Thrashing at Ty Croes. At Tan y Ffordd taking the side away for the channel.

Saturday 29 – Got the boats up from the beach.

Sunday 30 – Prayer meeting at 2 and 6.

October.

Monday – Saturday 1 to 6.

Sunday 7 – Prayer meeting.

Monday 8 – At Ty Rhyd repairing and pointing the roof.

Tuesday 9 – At Ty Rhyd. Rain all day.

Wednesday 10 – Finished at Ty Rhyd today had 10/-.

Thursday 11 – The bull attacks Evan Rice Ysgo this morning. Had 5/- from Llywenan.

Friday Saturday 12 to 13 .

Sunday 14 – Rev Von Owen minister.

Monday 15 – Thanksgiving Bob Humphreys at 10.

Tuesday Wednesday 16 to 17.

Thursday 18 – At Ysgo finishing the plastering around the dairy door. Isaac Thomas and ….. BA’s photograph arrives.

Friday Saturday 18 to 20 –

Sunday 21 – John Evans Nefyn at 10.

Monday 22 – Thrashing at Ty Croes.

Tuesday 23 – Repairing the kitchen roof, heavy rain so I took out the oven.

Wednesday 24 -  At Tyn Lon repairing and installing the oven. Wind and rain today.

Friday 2 – At Cadlan Isa installing the oven.

Saturday – At Tyn Lon pointing the roof.

Sunday 4 – James Elder Cricieth at 2 and 6.

Monday Tuesday 5 to 6 – At Tyn Lon.

Wednesday 7 – Cementing around the door at Ael y Bryn.

Thursday 8 – Putting the gorse mill at Tan y Ffordd. LSA 7 pm.

Friday 9 – Sent a letter to Nell. At Carreg Lefain Bach fixing the roof. In 1917 Eliza and mother turn the cart over near Graig Ewig.

Saturday 10 – Rain. Milling gorse for the first time at Tan y Ffordd this year.

Sunday 11 – School in the morning. Heavy rain and wind. Put my new shirt on today RHT has brought a young lady here from Pwllheli.

Monday 12 -  Eclipse of the sun. Rain all day, not a good day for the fair.

Tuesday 13 -  Half at Carreg Lefain.  Slaughtered a pig at Tan y Ffordd.

Wednesday 14 – Half at Carreg Lefain Bach making a wall. Rain in the afternoon.

Thursday 15 -  Spent the day working on the wall at Carreg Lefain Bach.

Friday 16 – Rain today. Meeting about the hall at the school.

Saturday 17 – Half finishing the wall at Carreg Lefain Bach.

Sunday 18 – Roger Ty Mawr at 2 and 6.

Monday 19 -  John Evans goes to work at Neigwl Ganol.

Tuesday – Thursday 20 to 22.

Friday 23 – Strong breeze today.

Saturday 24 –

Sunday 25 – Prayer meeting at 2 and 6 only Hughes, O Owens and I at 2 and Hughes, Ellis Jones and I at 6.

Monday 26 – At shop newydd seeing to the garage doors.

Tuesday 27 – Eclipse of the moon. Finishing with garage doors and filling the crack between the house and the kitchen.

Wednesday 28 – Half putting up a gatepost. Daniel, Owen and I kept a look out last night for a ship.

Thursday 29 –

Friday 30 – At shop newydd finishing plastering the wall near the little gate at Moelwyn View.

 

December

Saturday 1 – At Ty Croes Bach repairing the back of the house. Eliza and Mary Garreg Lefain go to the meeting that Tyddyn chapel has at Sarn.

Sunday 2 – R Von Owen at 2 and 6. Ellis Congol Meinciau’s son preaches before him.

Monday 3 – At Carreg Lefain bach roofing.

Tuesday 4 – At Carreg Lefain Bach.

Wednesday 5 – Eliza and I go to see the Ynysoedd Waenfawr. Fine day.

Thursday 6 –

Friday 7 – Had a letter from Minafon Llangwnadl to say that there will be a meeting on Friday the 14th to discuss winding up the cooperative.

Saturday 8 – Hugh Owen finishes moving from Bryn Difyr to Tyddyn Mawr Llanrug.

Sunday 9 Prayer meeting at 2 and 6.

Monday 10 – Cold weather.

Tuesday 11 – Cold again today, wind from the east.

Wednesday 12 – In Pwllheli having my tooth out.

Thursday 13 – At Ty Ruttan repairing for Gwen Meillionydd bach.

Friday 14 – At Tan y Ffordd making a floor for the pantry.

Saturday 15

Sunday 16 – Joseff Jones at 2.

Monday 17 – The lady of Brynfran is ill.

Tuesday 18 – At Ty Ruttan.

Wednesday 19 – Eliza leaves for Clun and stays the night with Ann in Porthmadog. At Trip re installing the grate and oven.

Thursday 20 - Christmas tree in the school.

Friday 21 – Took the mill apart in Tan Y Ffordd in order to take the axel to the smithy.

Saturday 22 – Had a letter from Eliza in Clun to say that Nell has had a little boy since Thursday 20th of December. Had a card from Williams America and from the Kitins Pen yr Ogo.

Sunday 23 – James Elder Cricieth.

Monday Tuesday 24 to 25 –

Wednesday 26 – At Tan y Ffordd moving the blades of the mill.

Thursday 27 – At Ty Ruttan today.

Friday Saturday 28 to 29 –

Sunday 30 – R Humphreys Llanbedrog. Cold Sunday snow. Eliza is at The Birches Clun.

Monday 31 – I’m here alone the wireless in shop newydd is everything tonight, I sang a little on the ‘cordial’ (?) myself.
