January.

Saturday 1 – Paid for pig feed in shop newydd £2/6/0d. Gorse from the Parc two bundles.

Sunday 2 – Youth at 2 .

Monday 3 – Took the pigs to Sarn weight 16, 16 both of them weighed the same.

Tuesday 4 – Myfyr Machno at Pisgah. Ploughed Conion fields with the transplough (?)

Wednesday 5 – Ploughing. Two bundles of gorse from the Parc.

Thursday 6 – Finished ploughing.

Friday 7 – Parry Bodwyddog buys the calf. One bundle.

Saturday 8 – Cwt of coal and a sack of bran from the Post 11/6d.

Sunday 9 – John Roberts Penrhyn.

Monday 10 – At Llywenan finishing the pig trough Bob goes to Ty Canol to fetch two sacks of oats.

Tuesday 11 – Isaac Thomas weighs 14lbs and Lila Mary 12lbs at six months old. Two bundles of gorse from the Parc.

Wednesday 12 – Went to town to buy piglets they were from Rhandir and cost a half pound each.

Thursday 13 – Cold day snow in the morning.

Friday 14 – William Jones Tan y Garn’s funeral he died at Llysgyfryd.

Saturday 15 – One bundle.

Sunday 16 – Youth instead of Jones at 10.

Monday 17 – One bundle. Started the second stack of hay in the barn.

Tuesday 18 – Two bundles.

Wednesday 19 – One load. A hot afternoon an extremely hot afternoon.

Thursday 20 – One bundle. 20 bundles.

Friday 21 –

Saturday 22 – Went to John Evans at Trygarn to see the cattle. Evening service at Tyddyn chapel.

Sunday 23 – Joseff Jones at 10. Jones Rhiw in chapel in the morning. Went to Nebo to W Jones’s memorial sermon.

Monday 24 – Two bundles from the Parc.

Tuesday 25 – LSA practice today. Paid 13/- for indian corn.

Wednesday 26 – Wind and heavy rain. Paid Cowal 7/- for taking out my teeth.

Thursday – Saturday  27 I 29 – Strong winds.

Sunday 30 – Bob Humphreys at 2 and 6.

Monday 31 – Two bundles. Put the haystack in today.

 

February.

Tuesday 1 – One bundle. Fine day.

Wednesday 2 – One bundle. Hot day.

Thursday 3 – Misty and wet today.

Friday 4 – Fine day. Muck spreading in the bottom of the field near the chapel and started on cae big.

Saturday 5 – Tea at the school towards the village hall fund.

Sunday 6 – Youth from Coedpoeth at 2 and 6.

Monday 7 – One bundle.

Tuesday 8 – One bundle. Plas yn Rhiw auction. Sold a calf to Penarfynydd.

Wednesday 9 – Three bundles. 10/- for the butter. Icy weather. The ‘roads’ engine is at the crossroads of Conion.

Thursday 10 – Icy weather. Robert Penarfynydd comes to fetch the calf.

Friday 11 – Icy weather, fine day. One bundle.

Saturday 12 -  Finished muck spreading in cae big. Sack of bran from the Post 11/6d.

Sunday 13 – Berwyn Roberts at 2 and 6.

Monday 14 – One bundle. Muck spreading in the chapel field.

Tuesday 15 – One bundle. Misty.

Wednesday 16 – Nell and the lad go to Port ready to catch the 8 am train tomorrow. 10/- for butter.

Thursday 17 – Muck spreading.

Friday 18 – One bundle.

Saturday 19 – Two bundles. It rained all night. Had a letter from Nell.

Sunday 20 – Youth at 2 and 6.

Monday 21 – Sent a letter to Nell. Had a letter from Maggie. Two bundles.

Tuesday 22 – Rain today. At Ty Croes Bach making a cement floor in the oil engine shed.

Wednesday 23 – One bundle. Butter 16/-.

Thursday 24 – One bundle. At Syntyr in the afternoon fixing the roof.

Friday 25 – One bundle. At Rhiwlas putting the slate table in place.

Saturday 26 – Two bundles. Brought nine sheep from the hill pasture.

Sunday 27 – R M Williams Cricieth at 10.

Monday 28 – Rain today.

 

March

Tuesday 1 – The first sheep to lamb. Heavy rain.

Wednesday 2 – One bundle. At Nant unloading timber.

Thursday 3 – Two bundles Bob gathers one in Nant in the afternoon. Went to Aberdaron to the committee.

Friday 4 -  One bundle for Bob. Shift at Nant.

Saturday – Monday 5 to 7. –

Tuesday 8 – Went to get Richard to Denbigh.

Wednesday 9 –  R H T and I spend the afternoon with Daniel measuring the ropes for the LSA.

Thursday – Saturday 10 to 12 – One bundle.

Sunday Monday 13 to 14 –

Tuesday 15 – Gathering gorse in the morning.

Wednesday 16 – One bundle. Bran from the Post.

Thursday 17 – At Penarfynydd digging holes to raise the LSA pole.

Friday 18 – One bundle. Finishing the digging.

Saturday 19 – One bundle.

Sunday 20 – Evans at 6.

Monday 21 – One bundle. Richard plants the small garden.

Tuesday 22 – One load. Paid 3/- for a cwt of coal.

Wednesday 23 – Richard and I erect two poles at Penarfynydd for the rocket ( LSA ).

Thursday 24 – Cemented the poles and coal tarred them.

Friday 25 – At Tyn Lon Fawr repairing the floor. 4 cwt of coal from Talafon paid 13/-.Saturday 26 – Not well in bed until midday. Wet weather.

Sunday 27 –  Morris Cricieth.

Saturday 9 – Cold wind.  Caught the pony. Letter from Nell.

Wednesday 20 -  Ploughed the upper end of the field below the house for planting. The new headmaster arrives.

Friday 15 – Shift. Pay 32/18/8d. Cwt of coal to Benallt. Sent my card to Sam Jones 24 stamps.

Saturday 16 – Shift. Carried hay in cae big and the upper end of cae capel.

Sunday 17 –  Hugh Jones Cricieth at 2 and 6.

Monday 18 – Shift. Got the hay at Tan y Ffordd.

Tuesday 19 -  Started off to load a ship but my back was bad so went to the doctor’s at Botwnnog.

Wednesday Saturday 20 to 23 - . Bad weather for haymaking. No work my back is bad.

Sunday 24 – My back is painful these days.

Wednesday 27 – Shift. Had £1/4/6d for erecting the two poles for the LSA.

Thursday 6 – Shift. Bob is thrashing at Ty Mawr in the afternoon.

Friday 7 – Shift. At Tyn Parc.

Saturday 8 – Shift. Pay £1/8/8d. At Penrallt. Fine week.

Sunday 30 – Thomas Morris Cricieth at 10. Ann Pant dies this morning.

Monday 31 – Shift carrying the jetty timber from Porth Alm to Porth Ysgo.

 

November

Tuesday 1 – Shift at Benallt. Heavy rain Tedi gets soaked as he unloads the balks from the Nant y Carw lorry. Sent a letter to Nell.

Wednesday Thursday Friday 2 to 4. Shift at Benallt. Pay £2/15/0d.

Saturday 5 – Shift erecting the cradle and  collecting the timber from Porth Ysgo. Sent two papers to Nell.

Sunday 6 – Prayer meeting at 2 and 6.

Monday 7 – Shift.

Tuesday 8 – Shift started digging on the muck level. Hall committee meeting tonight.

Wednesday 9 – Shift.

Thursday 10 – Shift at Benallt in the morning. Went to Graig Ddu in the afternoon to get the big hammer up ( jack hammer?)

Friday 11 – Shift at Graig Ddu. Tedi has gone to the fair.

Saturday 12 – Shift finished getting the hammer up. Got a little kitten from Ty Fair.

Sunday 13 – Ellis O Lloyd Porthmadog at 2 and 6.

Monday 14 – Shift at Nant carrying timber.

Tuesday 15 – Shift loading the big hammer at onto the Nant y Carw lorry at Talafon to be taken to Pwllheli  and then on to Caernarfon to get a sling.

Wednesday 16 – Shift sawing pieces of balks that had come ashore from the jetty at Porth Alm.

Thursday 17 – Shift splitting them ( balks) and getting them up the cliff.

Friday 18 – Shift carrying up the cliff.

Saturday 19 – Shift carrying to the yard. Heavy rain this afternoon. Pay £2/17/0d.

Sunday 20 – Thomas Morris Cricieth.

Monday 21 – Shift getting timber to the yard this morning Benallt in the afternoon.

Tuesday – Thursday 22 to 24 – Shift.

Friday 25 – Shift. Sent a letter to Nell at Birches Clun Shropshire.

Saturday 26 – Shift. Went to Rhoshirwaen to listen a Welsh Male Voice Choir.

Sunday 27 – Bob Humphreys Llanbedrog at 2 and 6.

Monday Tuesday 28 to 29 – Shift at Benallt.

Wednesday 30 – Shift digging on Bodwyddog Mountain clearing for Harri Thomas.

 

December

Thursday 1 – Hugh Terfyn and I are blasting ( explosives ) stones at the quarry for H Thomas.  Eliza has gone to Ty Fair.

Friday 2 – Shift at Nant getting the balks up from the cliff to the office.

Saturday 3 – Shift getting the piles on to the jetty, R W and are rigging in preparation for hammering on Monday. Paid the nurses collection to Miss Jones Cadwgan £2/7/4d. Paid for the coal at Seaview.

Sunday 4 – George E Williams from Clynnog at 2, prayer meeting at 6 Tom Hughes, Evan Hughes and I.

Monday 5 – Went up to Benallt from Nant as it was too stormy to hammer the piles. John fetches a cwt of coal from Efail.

Tuesday – Saturday 6 to 10. – Shift.

Sunday 11 – Berwyn Roberts at 2 and 6.

Monday 12 – Shift. Cold day. Eliza goes to Ty Fair.

Tuesday 13 – Shift hammering piles on the stage.

Wednesday 14 – Shift went to Nant in the morning snow, so came up to Benallt.

Thursday 15 – Shift hammering piles.

Friday 16 – Shift getting the timber to the yard from the outside the engine shed. It was six years ago today that poor Isaac’s last letter arrived, the same evening  he was lost  Friday  the sixteenth of December 1921 aged 22.

Saturday 17 – Shift at Benallt. Pay £2/17/2d. Icy all day, we’ve had three cold days. Tedi comes from Nant this afternoon he’s ill.

Sunday 18 – Prayer meeting at 2 and 6 W Jones Ty Croes, Ellis Jones, W Jones Llyshyfryd, Tom Hughes, Evan Hughes and I. Cold Sunday.

Monday 19 – Shift getting the timber from the yard. Cold wind from the east.

Tuesday 20 – Shift at Benallt. Cold icy winds, it’s the coldest spell for 33 years.

Wednesday 21 – Eliza and Bob go to the Christmas Market in Pwllheli. Change in the weather there’s a thaw today.

Thursday 22 – Shift.

Friday 23 – Shift. Cold weather. Sent a Christmas parcel to Birches Clun.

Sunday 24 – Shift. Went to Ty Engan to see Griffith Owen and went from there to fetch Eliza to Ty Fair.

Sunday 25 – Prayer meeting at 2 and 6 E Hughes, E Williams, W Jones, G Thomas, O Owens and W Jones Llyshyfryd.

Monday 26 – Christmas no work.

Tuesday 27 – Shift hammering piles. The weather is fairly nice.

Wednesday 28 – Shift hammering piles.

Thursday 29 – Shift at Benallt Hugh Jones Terfyn and I.

Friday 30 – Shift Icy every day.

Saturday 31 – Shift Tedi, John Terfyn and Thomas at Benallt today, Thomas and Ty Croes have an argument. Rain.
