Friday 1 – Griffith Tyn Cae dies.

Saturday 2 – Unemployed £1/3/0d.

Sunday 3 -  W Jones Pwllheli at 5. Heavy rain in the morning didn’t go to Sunday school.

Monday 4 – Ty Croes, Llyshyfryd and I go to the quarterly session meeting at Pwllheli.

Tuesday 5 – Williams Rhoshirwaen at Pisgah. Grifftith Tyn Cae’s funeral.

Wednesday – Friday 6to 8 –

Saturday 9  – Unemployed £1/3/0d.

Sunday 10 – A Lloyd Hughes at 10.

Monday 11 – The unemployed came today having gone to Aberdaron on Saturday instead of Rhiw. Sent Tedi his insurance card. Red mist this morning.

Tuesday 12 – Half at Pwllmelyn.

Wednesday 13 –

Thursday 14 – Unemployed £1/3/0d.

Friday 15 – Snow. Had a letter from Nell and one from Tedi.

Saturday 16 – Went to Sarn to the Post Office to get the money that my poor Isaac had, who was lost in the North Sea December 16 1921. ( war loan )

Sunday 17 – Snow today didn’t go to chapel.

Monday 18 – Thaw today.

Tuesday 19 – Drying well today. Sam Jones comes to get my insurance card.

Wednesday 20 – Shift started at New shop bricking in the window on the kitchen wall.

Thursday 21 – Shift at New shop bricking in the window nearest the school.

Friday 22 – Shift bricking the window nearest the shop.

Saturday 23 – Shift finishing bricking the window. Received £1/0/0d from Hughes. Unemployed £1/3/0d

Sunday 24 – Berwyn Roberts at 2 and 6.

Monday 25 – Shift starting on the chimney and closing the door in the front of the house.

Tuesday Wednesday 26 – 27 –

Thursday 28 – Last three days building a chimney on the end nearest the road.

Friday 29 – Shift. Auction of the goods of the late Humphrey Jones Tyddyn.

February

Monday – Thursday 1 to 4 –

Friday 5 – This week have been working on making a door and window.

Saturday 6 – Rain today. Pay £1/5/0d.

Sunday 7 – Jones Rhiw for the first time.

Monday 8 – Shift making a window for the bedroom.

Tuesday 9 – Shift finishing bricking the window nearest the kitchen and making a window for the end nearest the road.

Wednesday – Friday 10 to 12 – Shift.

Saturday 13 -  Shift bricking the door and window. Pay £1/10/0d. Installing the oven at Meillionydd.

Sunday 14 – Joseff Jones at 2 and 6.

Monday – Friday 15 to 19. –  Shift.

Saturday 20 – Shift. Pay £1/10/0d.

Sunday 21 – A Ll Hughes at 2 and 6. Sunday schools meeting at Pwllheli W Jones Llyshyfryd and I go in the morning with Eifion’s motor ( taxi ).

Monday 22 – Shift started on the roof whilst John the son of Brongadair finishes the chimney.

Tuesday 23 – Sent a letter to Nell. Shift bricked the window then continued with the roof with William Llyshyfryd’s plasterer.

Wednesday 24 – Finished the roofing today. Misty weather.

Thursday 25 – Began plastering. Misty.

Friday 26 – Plastering.

Saturday 27 – Plastering. Play at Rhoshirwaen ‘Mari’r forwyn’ ( Mary the maid. )

Sunday 28 – T Morris Cricieth at 10.

 

March

Monday 1 – Shift putting ridge tiles on the roof.

Tuesday 2 – Shift rendering the kitchen.

Wednesday 3 – Shift R H T has a telegram from Tedi in Bristol, he wants him to join him ( on the ship )

Thursday 4 – Shift. R H T leaves on the 8 am train to be with Tedi. Telegram to say that he has arrived safely.

Friday 5 – Shift cementing the kitchen wall.

Saturday 6 – Shift and a half in the afternoon finishing the cementing. Pau £1/12/0d.

Sunday 7 – Youth from Pentre Dwr at 10.

Monday 8 – Shift finishing the kitchen end.

Tuesday 9 – Shift cementing the upper end.

Wednesday 10 – Shift finished putting on the first coat.

Thursday 11 – Shift putting filler in the eaves.

Friday 12 – Shift cementing around the window. R H T comes back from sea.

Saturday 13 – Shift. Pay £1/11/0d.

Sunday 14 – Berwyn Roberts at 2 and 6. William Jones and I go to Salem and Horeb Aberdaron.

Monday 15 – Shift.

Tuesday 16 – Shift pebble dashing around the window.

Wednesday 17 – Shift pebble dashing.

Thursday 18 – Shift pebble dashing the front near the road.

Friday 19 – Shift putting a grate in the bedroom and cementing.

Saturday 20 – Shift cementing the kitchen end. Pay £1/11/0d. Eliza and Bob go to Clun, they  stayed  in Portmadoc last night. The weather is dry here.

Sunday 21 – Jones Rhiw at 10. Went to Aberdaron at 6 to listen to Hugh Hughes.

Monday 22 – Shift.

Tuesday 23 – Tedi comes home from Bristol. Shift plastering the parlour.

Wednesday 24 – Received a letter from Clun. Shift putting a grate in the parlour. Sent Eliza a letter to Clun ( Salop )

Thursday 25 – Shift putting a grate in the living room.

Friday 26 – Shift putting the second coat on the kitchen end.

Saturday 27 – Shift again.

Sunday 28 -  R M Williams Cricieth at 2.

Monday 29 – Shift cementing the bedroom above the kitchen. Tedi furrows the garden.

Tuesday 30 – Shift cementing the floor. Tedi plants potatoes.

Wednesday 31 – Shift finished cementing and started laying tiles. Letter from Eliza in Clun. Rain today.

 

April.

Thursday 1 – Shift laying tiles on the kitchen floor and installing the oven. Sent a letter to Williams in America.

Friday 2 – Shift pebble dashing the kitchen end.

Saturday 3 – Shift finished putting cement around the chimney nearest the road. Pay £1/10/0d.

Sunday 4 – Bob Humphreys at 2 and 6. Fine Sunday.

Monday 5 –

Tuesday 6 – Shift making room for the WC. Sent Eliza a letter to Clun.

Wednesday 7 – At Pwllmelyn finishing the chamber ( bedroom )

Thursday 8 -  At home plastering the middle bedroom, then went to Bryn Fran to put up a wooden mantle piece and to wallpaper.

Friday 9 – Shift started on the front wall of Moelwyn View.

Saturday 10 – Shift walling. Pay 15/-.

Sunday 11 – T Morris Cricieth am 2 a 6.

Monday 12 – Shift walling.

Tuesday 13 – Shift. Letter from Eliza in Clun.

Wednesday 14 – Half shift. Rain. Sent a letter to Eliza.

Thursday Friday 15 to 16 – Shift.

Saturday 17 – Shift. Pay £1/7/6d.

Sunday 18 – R H Jones Rhiw at 2 and 6.

Monday  Tuesday 19 to 20 – Shift walling.

Wednesday Thursday 21 to 22 – Shift.

Friday 23 – Shift started on the loo.

Saturday 24 – Shift. Pay £1/5/0d.

Sunday 25 – A Lloyd Hughes Nefyn at 2 and 6.

Monday Tuesday 26 to 27 – Shift.

Thursday 28 – In town for the auction on John Williams Llawrdre’s land. Eliza comes home from Clun.

Thursday 29 – Put the eggs under the hen. Shift.

Friday 30 – Shift. Cold weather.

 

May

Saturday 1 – Shift. Pay £1/5/0d. Work stops again heavy rain.

Sunday 2 – Jones Rhiw at 10.

Monday 3 – Shift. The coal strike. Cold weather.

Tuesday 4 – Shift. The railway strike. Cold weather.

Wednesday 5 – Shift.

Thursday 6 – Eliza and I go to Cricieth to the chapels meeting.

Friday 7 – Shift. Cold weather, there’s snow on the mountains of Eifionydd.

Saturday 8 –

Sunday 9 – Hugh Hughes Pisgah.

Monday – Friday 10 – 14 – Shift.

Saturday 15 – Shift. Pay £1/7/6d. Eliza and I have been at Tan y Ffordd all night with Dick.

Sunday 16 – Had a difficult day with Dick.

Monday 17 – Dick goes away.

Tuesday 18 – Half at Shop Newydd.

Wednesday 19 –

Thursday 20 – Took the cow to the auction at Sarn, sold her for £18/11/0d.

Friday 21 – Shift making a gatepost near the road at Shop Newydd.

Saturday 22 – Half. Pay 10/-. Gathered stones from the field below the house in the afternoon.

Sunday 23 – Fine day. At Tan y Ffordd all day.

Monday 24 – Spent the day gathering stones from the field.. A letter came from the Rev J Ll Hughes.

Tuesday 25 – Spent the day gathering and carrying the stones that were in piles from the field.

Wednesday 26 – Gathered stones and sowed carrots.

Thursday 27 – Rain. Finished gathering the stones. The Singing Festival.

Friday 28 – Letter from Nell. Made a pond in Tyddyn Morthwyl field to get water for the hill pasture.

Saturday 29 – Finished in the garden. Moved the cattle to the hill pasture.

Sunday 30 – At Tan y Ffordd. Mist and wind today it rained last night.

Monday 31 – Took the pigs to Sarn.

 

June.

Tuesday 1 – A day at Bwlchgarreg cementing the pigsty floor.

Wednesday 2 – Day at Bwlchgarreg. Had a postcard from Dick.

Thursday 3 – Had a letter from Dick he wants tobacco. Sent the tobacco and two pipes plus 2/-. Gathered the sheep.

Friday 4 – Cleaned the pigsty and carried water to the hill pasture.

Saturday 5 – Washed the cart, cut the gorse and carried water to the hill pasture.

Sunday 6 – At Tan y ffordd.

Monday 7 – Weeded the potatoes in the morning. Half at Shop Newydd. Rain this evening. Griffith Neigwl calls here.

Tuesday 8 – Shift at Shop Newydd.

Wednesday 9 – Shift at Shop Newydd. Heavy rain.

Thursday 10 -  Frost on the Parc. Afraid that the cow is passing blood.

Friday 11 – Sent a pipe and tobacco to Dick.

Saturday 12 – Cut gorse and weeded potatoes in the afternoon.

Sunday 13 – At Tan y Ffordd.

Monday 14 – Weeded the potatoes. Had a letter from Dick.

Tuesday 15 – Weeding in the morning. LSA practice in the afternoon.

Wednesday 16 – Weeding in the morning. Shop Newydd in the afternoon.. Bob gathers the weeds. Had a letter from Nell.

Thursday 17 – Shift at Sop Newydd installing the oven. Rain in the afternoon. Bob has a letter from Dick.

Friday 18 – Cleared the rows of potatoes then ploughed.

Saturday 19 – Cut the gorse and sheared the yearling ewes.

Sunday 20 – At Tan y Ffordd. Misty Sunday. Eliza and I go to visit Mary Tyn Gamfa.

Monday 21 – At Brynfran re- installing the oven. Letter from Nell.

Tueday 22 – Repairing the holes in the cowshed roof.

Wednesday 23 – Paving the pigsty and dipped the sheep in the afternoon. Sent an apron to Nell and tobacco to Dick.

Thursday 24 – Installed the oven at Bodwyddog.

Friday 25 – Shearing at Tan y Ffordd. Evan Hughes has a letter from Dick.

Saturday 26 –

Sunday 27 – Morris Cricieth at 2 and 6.

Monday 28 – Went to town to pay for the fertiliser. Carrying hay at Ty Croes Bach. Hot weather.

Tuesday 29 – Weeded the turnips.

Wednesday 30 -  Thinned out the turnips.

 

July.

Thursday 1 – Half at Bwlch Garreg finishing the pig trough, finished paving the sty at Tan y Ffordd. Eliza goes to Ty Fair.

Friday 2 – Thinned the turnips and painted the wheels of the cart.

Saturday Sunday 3 to 4 –

Monday 5 – Furrowed the field.

Tuesday 6 – Fertilised the field. Rain.

Wednesday 7 – Went to town to buy piglets, bought some from Penrhyn Mawr Cilan.

Thursday 8 -  Furrowing and finished fertilising.

Friday 9 – Transplanting, Wet week.

Saturday 10 – Finished in the field. Rain in the afternoon.

Sunday 11 – In bed today I am ill.

Monday 12 – Got up but didn’t go out.

Tuesday 13 – Not much better today. Put lines in the clock at Tan y Ffordd. Letter from Nell. Hot weather.

Wednesday 14 – Cut the bottom part of the field below the house.

Thursday 15 – Raked the field. Cut the field next to Conion.

Friday 16 – Finished getting the hay at Conion, had 4 loads from the field below the house.

Saturday 17 – Cut the hovel field and half ‘cae big’ , 3 loads from the field next to Conion. The heifer has a calf.

Sunday 18 – Jones at 10. Thunder this morning, quite a storm. Jane Meillionydd’s husband preaches at Tan y Foel.

Monday – Wednesday 19 – 21 – Poor weather.

Thursday 22 –  Dug a trench for the pipes at the front and back of the house.

Friday 23. Misty again today. Bob goes to stay with Nell.

Saturday 24 -  Put matting over the hay. Mist and rain today.

Sunday 25 – Joseff Jones at 2 and 6.

Monday 26 – Carried hay from the hovel and cae big field.

Tuesday 27 – Cut gorse.

Wednesday 28 – Cut near the ditch at cae big and raked cae capel.

Thursday 29 – Letter from Nell. Fishing with Griff John. Mist and rain.

Friday 30 – Mist again. Raked cae big, fine afternoon. Sent a letter to Nell.

Saturday 31 – Carried cae big and the upper end of cae capel. Hot day.

 

August.

 Sunday 1 – Jones Rhiw at 2 and 6.

Monday 2 – Gave my card to Sam Jones 24 stamps.

Tuesday 3 –

Wednesday 4 – Went to town in front of the guardians. Finished getting the hay.

Thursday Friday 5 to 6 –

Saturday 7 –  Attended to the haystack and gathered the hay from the wayside.

Wednesday 11 – At Trip in the afternoon.

Thursday 12 – Cut the hay at Baronhill.

Friday 13 – Finished cutting the hay.

Saturday 14 – Fetched the hay from Baronhill.

Sunday 15 – Ellis Lloyd. Mist and rain all day.

Monday 16 –

Tuesday 17 –  The brown heifer gets the bull.

Wednesday 18 – At Trip in the afternoon.

Thursday 19 – Went to Pengroeslon to get a teat for the cow 5/-

Friday20 – Wind and rain all day. Received a letter from Denbigh.

Saturday 21 –

Sunday 22 – Berwyn at 6.30.

Monday Tuesday 23 to 24 –

Wednesday 25 – Taking the fence down in the sheepdog trials field at Penarfynydd.

Thursday 26 – Butter 10/-.

Friday 27 – Went to Conion to get a load of bracken.

Saturday 28 – Fixing the haystack. Sports day at Tyn Mynydd field towards the village hall fund.

Sunday 29 – Hugh Jones Cricieth at 2 and 6.30. Took the heifer to the bull. Evan Williams and I go to Tyddyn.

Monday 30 – Got 3 loads of gorse from Bodwyddog Mountain. Went to Treheli to get a roof for Conion (?). Rain this evening.

Friday 3 – Fishing. Cwt of corn for the hens.

Saturday 4 – Sent Dick a letter.

Sunday 5 – Morris Cricieth.

Monday 6 – Cut bracken in the morning. Tending the garden in the afternoon.

Tuesday 7 –

Wednesday 8 – Went to town.

Thursday 9 – Butter 8/-.

Friday 10 – At Ty Croes Bach.

Saturday 11 –

Sunday 12 -  Hugh Hughes at 2 and 6.

Monday – Friday 13 to 17 -  A wet week.

October.

Friday 1 – Letter from Rev John Lloyd Hughes Denbigh.

Saturday 2 – John E Williams at Rhos.

Monday 4 - Put the red stuff (marker) on the ram.

Tuesday 5 – Picking potatoes.

Wednesday 6 – Three ewes have taken the ram since Monday. John Nant is injured with his motorbike.

Thursday Friday 7 to 8 – Picking potatoes.

Saturday 9 – Wind from the West. 6 ewes have taken the ram.

Sunday 10 –

Monday Tuesday 11 to 12 – Picking potatoes.

Wednesday 13 – At Meillionydd re- installing the oven.

Thursday 14 – Laying concrete in front of the rocket shed ( LSA ).

Friday 15 -  Laying concrete again.

Saturday 16 – At Ty Canol Pencaerau repairing the roof of the cowshed from 10 to 5. 10 sheep have taken the ram.

Sunday 17 – Morris Cricieth.

Monday 18 – Thanksgiving.

Tuesday 19 – At Ty Canol in the afternoon. Bob and W Jones go to Denbigh.

Wednesday 20 – Finished at Ty Canol. LSA. 6/- ( butter )

Thursday 21 – Carrying bracken from the hill pasture.

Friday 22 – At Ty Canol in the afternoon.

Saturday 23 –

Sunday 24 – Heavy rain today.

Monday – Thursday 25 to 28.

Friday 29 – At Glwyd installing the oven.

Saturday 30 – Finishing at Glwyd.

November.

Monday Tuesday 1 to 2. –

Wednesday 3 – Ty Canol in the afternoon. Butter 6/-.

Thursday Friday 4 to 5. –

Saturday 6 -  Griffith Neigwl’s here today.

Sunday Wednesday 7 to 11 – Seven sheep have taken the ram.

Thursday 12 – Went to town to pay ( rent) for Parc and the hill pasture.

Friday Saturday 12 to 13 –

Sunday 14 – E Hughes Llangollen at 10.

Monday 15 – Wind and rain today.

Tuesday 16 – At Ty Canol in the afternoon finishing cementing the chimney. Rain in the night.

Wednesday 17 – Rain all night. Closed a gap in the field next to Conion.

Thursday 18 – Gave up feeding the cow with feed as she is in calf.

Friday 19 –

Saturday 20 – Thrashing at Cadwgan.

Sunday 21 – Joseff Jones at 10. Prayer meeting at 6.

Monday 22 – Thrashing at Tyn Fron. Heavy rain in the night.

Tuesday 23 – Picking turnips.

Wednesday 24 – Washing the LSA wagon with Daniel ( Rhiwlas )

Thursday Saturday 25 to 27 –

Sunday 28 – T Morris Criceth.

Tuesday 30 – Carrying gorse from the hill pasture.

 

December

Wednesday 1 – At Rhiwlas in the afternoon.

Thursday 2 – Getting timber from the stage.

Friday Saturday 3 to 4.

Sunday 5 – Berwyn at 10.

Monday 6 – Cutting bracken in parc. Fine day.

Tuesday 7 -  Paid 13/- to Robert Hughes Pengroeslon.

Wednesday 8 –

Thursday 9 – Bob Tom Tan y Graig and I cut  bracken in the afternoon.

Friday 10 – Tom and I cut bracken again.

Saturday 11 – Went to the co operative to fetch coal and a cwt of fine corn and a sack of bran.

Sunday 12 – A Lloyd Hughes at 2 and 6.

Monday 13 –

Tuesday 14 – At Llywenan for a time but gave up as it was too cold.

Wednesday 15 – At  Llywenan in the afternoon.

Thursday 16 – Gathered gorse.

Friday Saturday 17 to 18.

Sunday 19 – Berwyn Roberts at 2 and 6.

Monday 20 – Bought the sheep down from the hill.

Tuesday 21 –

Wednesday 22 – Went to Gyfynus.

Thursday 23 – Gathered gorse fron Parc Meillionydd. 3 cows at home. Got a cwt of corn from New Shop.

Friday 24 – Card from Williams from Cincinatti. The Neigwl Ganol cow has a calf, but has problems with after birth.

Saturday 25 – Two lots of gorse from the Parc. The farrier from Sarn comes to remove the after birth.

Sunday 26 –

Monday 27 – The black cow hasn’t had her calf.

Tuesday 28 – Went to Meillionydd Bach to ask to borrow the transplough (?)

Wednesday 29 –

Thursday 30 – At Llywenan in the afternoon. Took the cow to Parc.

Friday 31 – At Llywenan in the afternoon.
