Sunday 27 – No chapel at Tan y Foel. Joseff Jones at 2 and 6.

Monday 28 – Shift quarrying in the afternoon. Richard Baronhill takes my insurance card to Edeyrn.

Tuesday 29 – Half shift. LSA practice in the afternoon.

Wednesday 30 – Shift. Roberts returns from Liverpool.

Thursday 31 – Shift loading the lorry. Pay 32/19/6d. Went to Pengroes to fetch my shoes.

 

February

Friday 1 – Shift loading the lorry.

Saturday 2 -  Shift discharging stone onto the road.

Sunday 3 – At Tan y Ffordd. Youth instead of Glyn Roberts.

Monday 4 – Shift laying pipes to get the water out of the Nant. Fine dry weather.

Tuesday 5 – Shift at Nant. W Roberts at Nant for the last time.

Wednesday 6 – William Roberts Mango dies at two am today. Shift Hugh Terfyn comes to fetch me from Nant.

Thursday 7 – Shift.

Friday 8 – Went to work in the morning Harry Thomas comes to persuade me to go to W Roberts funeral.

Saturday 9 – Shift. Rain in the morning.

Sunday 10 – Evans at 10. Was up all night at Tan y Ffordd.

Monday 11 – Shift carrying pipes to the road at Benallt.

Tuesday 12 – Lewis G Jones starts work at Nant today. Dry weather.

Wednesday 13 – Shift.

Thursday 14 – Shift carrying the pipes down to the beach in order to get the water out of  Nant. Pay £2/14/8d. Auction at Cae Crwth poor Sal.

Friday 15 – Shift pipe laying in the level at Nant. The weather is cold and icy.

Saturday 16 -  Shift pipe laying in the level. No rain for days.

Sunday 17 – Thomas BA Cricieth. Up all night with mother. Dry cold icy weather.

Monday 18 – Shift pipe laying in the level.

Tuesday 19 – Shift pipe laying in the level. Bob is at Blawdty. No rain for days.

Wednesday 20 -  Shift connecting the pipes in the morning , repairing the road from the smithy to the boiler hut at Nant in the afternoon.

Thursday 21 – Shift clearing the way for a trolley to fetch the gear for the oil engine at Groeslon, installed a grate in the office in the afternoon. Had a letter from the South.

Friday 22 – Shift repairing the old smithy in the yard at Porth Ysgo.

Saturday 23 – Shift quarrying at Benallt. Had a letter from Williams in America. The weather is still dry. Dick finishes ploughing the field below the house at Tan y Ffordd. There is heavy smoke from the blaze on the mountain.

Sunday 24 – H Hughes at 2 and 6. Mother is very poorly today.

Monday 25 – Shift quarrying at Benallt. Dry weather, the mountains are set alight.

Tuesday 26 – Shift quarrying again. Dry and cold.

Wednesday 27 – Shift Icy this morning a little rain by the afternoon. Betw Tan y Garn dies.

Thursday 28 – Shift. Pay £2/19/8d.

Friday 29 – Shift. Cold wind . Bull for the Trewan cow.

 

March.

Saturday 1 – Shift. Snow in the evening.

Sunday 2 – Youth from Pwllheli at 6. Was up all night at Tan y Ffordd with mother. Snow in the afternoon.

Monday 3 – Shift the lorry fetches a load after we left work. Betw Tan y Garn’s funeral. John wins 2/- at the society.

Tuesday 4 – Shift. Came at 3 am from the Eisteddfod at Rhoshirwaen. The weather is icy at times.

Wednesday 5 – Shift loading the lorry in the morning. Snow followed by heavy rain. Bob stays up with mother.

Thursday 6 -  Shift. Letter from the South. Tedi stays up with mother.

Friday 7 -  Shift at Nant putting a piston in the oil engine. Thomas sends some cyiena for mother from the South.

Saturday 8 – Mother dies at seven thirty this morning. Catherine my sister and Richard come here. Went to the cemetery with John Davies.

Sunday 9 – It’s a fine dry Sunday.

Monday 10 – Eliza, Tedi and I go to town in Ismael’s motor to buy new clothes. It’s a hot day just like summer.

Tuesday 11 –  Went to Botwnnog to fetch mother’s burial paper.

 Wednesday 12 -Thomas arrives. It’s still dry weather.

Thursday 13 – Mother’s funeral. Paid for the coffin and the flags ( stones) £11/12/0d.

Friday 14 – Tedi and I go to town to hear the reading of mother’s will. Richard Jones Ty Rhedyn dies.

Saturday 15 – Went to the new fair.

Sunday 16 – Eliza, Tedi and I went to church at 10 ( Sion wouldn’t get out of bed) Hugh Hughes Tregarth at “ and 6.

Monday 17 – Shift on the level above the opening for the crane at Benallt.

Tuesday 18 – Shift. Pay £2/14/3d. Paid John Davies £1/0/0d for mother’s grave.

Wednesday 19 – Shift. Still fine.

Thursday 20 – Shift at Nant. Richard Jones Ty Rhedyn’s funeral.

Friday 21 – Shift at Benallt in the morning, at Nant in the afternoon unloading boxes. Furrowed the garden at Tan y Ffordd.

Saturday 22 -  Shift at Nant carrying planks in. Fairly misty and rain by the evening.

Sunday 23 – T Glyn Roberts at 2 and 6. Rain all night. Abcess on my neck.

Monday 24 – Shift at Benallt.

Tuesday 25 – Shift at Nant renewing the pipes on the cliff.

Wednesday 26 – William Jones Llawenan dies.

Thursday 27 – Shift moving the boxes from the road to the engine shed.

Friday 28 – Shift with the boxes again.

Saturday 29 – Shift unloading iron from Nant y Carw’s motor. Planted potatoes in the garden at Tan y Ffordd. Dick, J E and I start furrowing the field below the house at Tan y Ffordd.

Sunday 30 -  T H Evans Pisgah at 2 and 6. Griffith Jones Spyrgeon, Penmynydd dies.

Monday 31 – Shift at Nant. William Jones Llawenan’s funeral.

 

April

Tuesday 1 – Shift at Nant. The weather is cold no rain.

Wednesday 2 – Went to town to see about Tan y Ffordd.

Thursday 3 – Shift at Benallt discharging stones onto the road.

Friday 4 -  Shift at Benallt Griffith Jones Spyrgeon’s funeral.

Saturday 5 -  Shift at Benallt. Finished planting the border at Ael y Bryn. Mowing machine comes to Carreg Lefain from Bolmynydd Llanbedrog.

Monday 7 – Shift at Benallt. Cold and dry.

Tuesday 8 – Shift at Benallt.

Wednesday 9 – Shift at Nant finished planting potatoes in the bottom end of the field at Tan y ffordd.

Friday 11 – Shift. It rained this evening and it was good to see it.

Wednesday 7 – Shift at Nant ‘til midday, then went down at 4 ‘til midnight to pump.

Thursday 8– Shift 4 ‘til 12. Wet weather.

Saturday 10 – Shift 4 ‘til 12. My Uncle Richard Ty Corn’s funeral.

Sunday 18-  T H Evans at 10. Eliza, Hughes, Osborne, Barbera Meillionydd and I take Ismael ‘s motor (taxi ) down to the singing at Aberdaron.

Monday 26 – Went to the Singing Festival at Cricieth. John goes to work at Trygarn.There’s a new pony at tan y Ffordd. The weather is so so these days.

Friday 27 – Shift. Sion Owen  Waen dies.

Saturday 28 – Shift. Robert Syntyr and I go to the fair in the afternoon, Tedi drives Ismael’s taxi.

Monday 30 -  Shift found the manganese ore in the rock in the level that goes like a drift through  Benallt.

Tuesday 1 – Shift on the ore. Sion Waen’s funeral. The weather is poor.

Wednesday 2 – Shift on the ore again. Tedi goes to Cricieth with Ismael’s taxi.

Thursday 3 – Shift Robert Syntyr and I level out the bottom of the level at Benallt. Hugh has gone to Evan Rowland’s funeral.

Friday 4 – Shift.

Saturday 5 – Shift. Pay £3/2/8d. Heavy rain in the afternoon.

Sunday 6 – Evans at 2 and 6.

Monday 7 – Shift.

Tuesday 8 – Shift.

Wednesday 9 – Shift.

Tuesday 15 – Shift. Good day for the hay Robert Syntyr and I go to Ty Croes to carry hay from the barn field.

Thursday 17 – Shift. Rain today. Pay £2/17/8d.

Saturday 19 – Shift. Carried 6 loads of hay at Ty Croes in the evening.

Tuesday 30 – Half shift morning, went home midday. Shift 4 til 12 on the muck level. Three years today I had a telegram from Cardiff to say that there was no trace of Isaac ‘s ship.
