Pwllheli old Photographs

Penmount Chapel

Salem Chapel 1913

By all accounts William Booth Ross, from London, was quite a strange little man. He used to break into chapels to rob the collection box, but if the box was empty, he would set the building on fire. And this is what he did to the Salem chapel Pwllheli in July 1913, which burnt to the ground. Apparently, the only thing that escaped the inferno was the pulpit Bible.

Many thanks to Mrs M Jones for these photographs.
