The original school at Nant Gwrtheyrn was just a small wooden structure, (see 1898 image) but was destroyed in a storm at the beginning of the 1900's. After that the village chapel was used, and the school part was partitioned off. The school finally closed its doors in 1945, and thereafter, Nant's children attended the school at the nearest village Llithfaen.
