| Helo o Selden Kansas,
Wel mae’r tywydd yma yn braf a phoeth ond yn chwythu yn
reit hegar (be sydd yn newydd am hynna!!!) yn ystod yr wythnos
ddiwetha ma da ni wedi bod yn cael y combeins allan a'i gwneud i
fyny yn barod ar gyfar mynd lawr i Texas mewn pythefnos! Dwi
wedi bod yn stydio'n galad yn y saith diwrnod diwetha ma ar
gyfar y test lorri a wrth ryw drugaradd mi fedris i basio'r
prawf sgwenu yn olew rwan mae’r dreifio i hun i ddod ddydd
gwenar! Pentra bach ydi hwn hefo dim ond 200 o bobol ynddo fo a
mae o wirioneddol yn nhwll din byd!!!!! mae o ryw 45 munud o’r
dref sylweddol agosa a ryw 3 awr o'r ddinas agosa. Ar fy
ffordd o Denver mi basiais dri ffarm anfarth oedd yn
eiddo i dri brawd rhwng y tair roeddan nhw yn 160,000 o aceri..!!!

dydd ryw dro cyn diwadd y mis. Gobeithio y caf yrru un
update arall ichi cyn fi symud o Kansas

| Hello from Selden Kansas,
Well the weather here’s hot and sunny , but there’s a
strong wind ( what’s new there!!!) During the past week
we’ve been getting the combines out and getting them ready for
the journey down to Texas in two weeks!!, For the past seven
days I’ve been studying hard for the ‘Heavy goods licence
Fortunately I sailed through the written test and have to take
the driving test on Friday. This place is a really small town in
the back of beyond, about 200 residents. It’s about 45 mins
from the nearest town and about 3 hours to the nearest city. On
my way from Denver I passed three massive farms owned by three
brothers, between the three they were about 160,000 acres !!! (
not bad eh ! ). The plan is to move out from Kansas for Texas at
daybreak some time before the end of the month.
I hope I’ll be able to send another update before
leaving Kansas

Brief history
of
Selden
Selden, Kansas came
into being in 1888, just after the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific
railroad was built through the county. Families and buildings were moved
here from old Sheridan, Shibboleth and Jackson to be at the railroad.
The town company platted a town which was named in honor of Selden G.
Hopkins who, with I. B. Gray, I. N. Pence, M. F. Vandiver, Charles
Chandler and Joe Jenkins made up the town company. Bonds of $12,000 were
voted for a town site and on June 6, 1888, the McCroskie homestead was
purchased for this purpose.
A post office was
granted with I. N. Pence, postmaster. E. C. Motz, who had been
postmaster at Old Sheridan, carried mail on the star routes.
